Life Drawing - Week 5

Life Drawing with a new model, slightly younger than the previous two models, but nether-the-less still similar shapes.. well here goes..

**UPDATE27th**
Ughh.. well yh will be uploaded hopefully tomorrow. Havent got camera with me now. Night Bloggerssss
**UPDATE_28th..**
Sorry for the delay, Im having trouble with my mums kodak 'easyshare' camera.. Ive taken the photo's of my life drawings, but cant seem to connect the camera to my pc. I shall have a search on the internet tonight for the drivers, then try again.. Really sorry for the delay...
**UPDATE_30th..**
Whoa finally.. Found the installation cd for the camera.. Heres the saucy pics.. No under 18's please.. :P Hmm Blogger automatically puts picures at top of post. So You will have seen them first.. :D

Metropolis!

Metropolis.. What more needs to be said? The film itself was VERY VERY clear as to how it inspired the Sci-Fi genre.. The Rise of the Workers? How about the Rise of the Machines? Hows about the 'Machine-Man' could be like 'I-Robot'? taking the look of real humans..

The look and feel of this movie are absolutely stunning! Even for a film made in 1927! The Image above shows one of my favourite scenes, where the 'machine-man' turns into Maria.

I wont give a full description of the film as lots of other people have it so heres one Adam Bailey wrote:
"The city is being controlled by the upper class which is led by a man called Jon Fredersen. Fredersen controls all of the workers who run the machines which are beneath the cities depths. Maria who is a evangilical character advises the workforce that they should not start a revolution but wait for the arrival of the Mediator, Freder Fredersen (son of Jon)." - I have given credits to Adam Bailey for this quote, taken from his blog.

Inspirational Concept art..

*The Art of Halo, Creating a Virtual World.*As soon as I saw this book I had to borrow it from the library, Halo is a classic XBOX game, hence the reason why I borrowed the book *CLASSIC* I love the classic games.. Enough blabbering on heres what I Liked..
Above: I like All Character Concepts as I feel these are 'creating life' and I hope someday I can be this good, creating an 'army' of sketched characters, which would inturn become virtual that would be sweet :D Same as above, I like these character concepts as it shows what you see if you were to be playing as this character, from it's point of view. Environmental Concepts are amazing too. You are creating your own world. If you want a rock there, you put one there, if you dont, you erase it. I would also love to get to this stage in my photoshop/Graphics tablet drawings.. (If only I had a graphics tablet.. Anyone know where I can get a decent one? like £100-£150?)
More Character Concepts. This one is really good in my opinion as there is a Sh*t load going on.. You have Master Chief, the main character of the game, AND the main focus of this painting, with a shotgun in his hand. (I know this as the caption at the bottom reads: A Shotgun was best against the flood, By Eddie Smith + Lorraine Mclees.) Also in the background, top left, you can see a screaming person, I didnt notice this until I looked at it full screen :)

The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari

Well, we watched a film today. Called 'The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari' It was filmed in 1919 (or 1920, Cant quite remember) This film is B&W, and is a Silent Movie. This film is also one of the earliest Horror and has been a inspiration for the recent Horrors been released. It runs for approximately 70 mins.

"The deranged Dr. Caligari and his faithful sleepwalking Cesare are connected to a series of murders in a German mountain village, Holstenwall. Caligari presents an example of a motion picture "Frame Story" in which most of the plot is presented as a "Flashback", as told by Francis." -(Not taken from wikipedia!!) (aww, www.wikipedia.com)

This film was entertaining, as I havent seen a B&W film before. The Critics have
praised 'Dr. Caligari' for being extremely expressionistic. The set design is very abnormal due to it's odd shaped walls and windows.
Well not much more to say about it sooo... Catch you Bloggers Soon..

Leo.

Sorry to put you on the spot Leo but.. I just stumbled upon your FMP blog for your previous course.
I have to say WOW! I guess you are going to get through this project like a breeze :D

For those of you who havent seen it:
http://ljht-fmp.blogspot.com/

Amazing stuff Leo.
Well Done.

Project 2: Space/Environments.

Well for this project, we were given a random folder, I got folder 7. (Anyone else?)
The contents of this folder were from a book called 'Titus Groan'
Ive looked into the book a bit more and found this..

"As the first novel opens, Titus, heir to Lord Sepulchrave, has just been born, he stands to inherit the miles of rambling stone and mortar that stand for Gormenghast Castle. Inside, all events are predetermined by a complex ritual, lost in history, understood only by Sourdust, Lord of the Library. There are tears and strange laughter; fierce births and deaths beneath umbrageous ceilings; dreams and violence and disenchantment contained within a labyrinth of stone." -www.Play.com

Sounds pretty cool :D I briefly read over the extracts and am liking what im reading. I have ordered the book from play.com hopefully it will be the same version, ish..

"The Hall of Bright Carvings" - This one sounds to me like a long hallway, made of stone, carvings over the entire wall, (Makes me think of Aztecs)
"The Great Kitchen" - Im getting a picture of a kitchen out of ratatouille (However you spell it) A huuuge kitchen with several cooks and tons of ovens, pots, pans.
"The Attic" - This one sounds like there will be dust falling, low light, light rays coming through cracks in cielings/walls. wooden floors/walls.
"The Room of Roots" - Somehow makes me think of Monkey Island 1 I think, where the Voodoo Lady's hut is in the Swamp.

Well thats my thoughts so far :D

FINAL PORTRAIT

Well there it is.. In all its glory. My final portrait..

The inspiration came from Aziz and Cucher's series
Dystopia.. This 'character' is sad as he cannot speak his mind. The questions that come to us are..

Why is he sad?
What is he trying to say?
Why does he have no mouth?

I think this portrait reflects on myself. I usually like to keep myself to myself, if someone asks my opinion I sometimes feel awkward and try to make them feel happy. Ill sit at the back of the class trying not to be noticed or picked to answer a question. I try not to stand out in the crowds. I try to keep myself to myself, but also try to make friends. But even you know, thats hard if you dont speak up.

Let me know all your thoughts please. Even if they are saying this portrait is sh*t I still want to hear them.

Thanks.
Dan.

Portraits..

Well here goes..

'How would a face without a face show Emotions?'

This first image was inspired by the messing about in photoshop! I decided to take away different facial features. I then got carried away and took the whole of my face away. Thus the name for this collection of images, 'How can a face without a face show emotions?' Well next picture already!!!!!

With this picture I was thinking more how i could show emotion with as little facial features as possible, I decided to keep the eye. This image was originally only the left half of the face, which I copied and flipped, then blended all other facial features away. I then added a tear drop which shows the 'Sad/Sadness' emotion.

I really liked how the previous image worked so i decided to make another similar image, this one has just the mouth edited out. This 'character(me)' looks sad again as he cannot speak his mind, he cannot get his opinion across. Or.. he is holding it all in as... (NEXT PIC)

In this image the character is 'hiding' his face, could he be hiding something or be hiding from something? This character is infact hiding from something, he is feeling shy and doesnt want to be seen. Could this be the character from the previous images?

Well thats four portraits.. I dont know what else to say so ill leave the rest to you.. Thanks for reading and looking :D

OOHHH EXTRAS!!!

Saw Speaches..

Hello, Seth. I want to play a game. Right now, you are feeling helpless. This is the same helplessness you bestowed onto others. But now, it's unto you. Some would call this karma, I call it justice. Now you served five years of what should have... been a life sentence, for murder. A technicality gave you freedom, but it inhibited you from understanding the impact of taking a life. Today, I offer you true freedom. In thirty seconds, the pendulum will drop far enough to touch your body. Within sixty seconds, it will cut you in half. To avoid the pendulum, all you have to do is destroy the things that have killed... your hands. You must insert your hands and push the buttons to start the devices before you. Your bones will be crushed to dust. Will you destroy the things that have taken life in order to save one, Seth? Make your choice.

This to me could add meaning to my final portrait ideas.. I shall experiment with some ideas, and upload them tonight..

Maya - Week 3 Animation

**SHALL BE UPDATED TOMORROW**

Animation Time..

**SHALL BE UPDATED TOMORROW**

Life Drawing - Week 4

Again I am here at life drawing session..
This life drawing session for me, was most sucessful. I have drawn 8 images today.
Four of which are focusing on certain areas of the model.
Enough chit-chat here goes..

I think this drawing is quite accomplishing, Its quite abstract in its entirety but if you look closely you can see that its a model holding an easel strange concept but interesting too :D

This drawing is about focusing on the 'negative space' around the model, I decided to make a silhouette of the model as it seemed more questionable. Who is this person, why are they there? There are plenty of ideas behind this drawing.
This Drawing is... sideways...
**Please could you rotate your head -90 degrees**
Anyway.. This drawing is focusing on the object around the model. I think the only noticeable place where I went wrong is the stand for the Easel. I also think that this is one of the more accomplished of the drawings so far.

**The following photos were taken on my phone, hence the lower quality**

I managed to rotate this one before uploading, ill remember that for future reference.. I see this image as being rushed. The model just turned to face the opposite way, I then tried to copy the previous drawings' 'easel' and this didnt turn out too good.In this image I looked closer at the hands, at how the fingers looped in and over each other, at first i couldnt get the thumb on the closest hand the right shape. but it still doesnt look perfect but it looks pretty cool :D This one im happy with. This foot didnt turn out too good, even though i got the shading pretty close, the foor still looks awkward :/ I think it was the toes that threw me off, I couldnt get the right perspective on them. This was a good attempt at drawing hands, one of the areas of the body I struggle drawing, if you look back over my previous life drawing sessions i just draw hands and feet as blobs :P
This was meant to be the models' head. I started with the outline, then drew in the hair, and then the ear. But couldnt quite get the eyes/nose/mouth right. I then thought, shade the face and see if i can get the right shading. It looks ok but not the best again. If I had of gotten the facial features in it would be more 'attractive'.

This drawing has given me inspiration for my portraits.
What if a Face didnt have any features? Or missing a few features?
Ill look further into this :D

Bye for now.

1Point Lighting Back.
2Point Lighting.3Point Lighting.

More pics to be uploaded.. Next post please :D

Life Drawing - Week 3

Week three of life drawing.

Unfortunately the lady we have been drawing was ill so we now have a male model.
I only made one drawing of this model. Which I myself am 'un-proud' of, I wish I had drawn more portraits.

Although I do remember in the past two years, at Maidstone UCA I have drawn this model before. If I can dig up the drawings I shall post them.

Workshop Induction and more!

This week me and five other classmates attended the catch-up workshop induction.
We learnt how to make a....

Yup you guessed it!
A BOAT!!!

This was quick and simple to make, took about 10 mins. Also got a health and safety check thing done. So im all good to use the workshop if I would ever need to :)

---------------------------------

On another note, I found this painting I made for my GCSE Art work. It was intended for four 'main' countries. In my own opinion. Please dont say oh why isnt this there, why is that there.. It was what i thought was right at the time of creation :D here it is..

Well what does everyone think? For those of you who dont know. Clockwise from 12 o'clock we have: Eiffel Tower, TajMahal, Big Ben, and the Empire State Building. And the edges of the painting were intended to show 'Rural' and 'Urban'. Also, in the definate background, we have the Sydney Opera House.

Thoughts Please? :D

Maya Week 2..

Week two of the Maya sessions..
We were asked to create three objects today.

A Magnifying Glass.
The tutorial for the magnifying glass was helpfull, to learn how to create a glass texture and how to seperate the object into different pieces.

A Toaster.
The toaster tutorial was simple to follow, the only bit I found hard was creating the power cord. I also learnt about mirroring objects in the different axis.

An Old Fan.The Fan was modeled alongside another student, 'Jonny Bone' Cheers Jonny, Getting the support bars in place probably wouldnt have happened if you didnt help lol :D

Last but not least..

Thank you Alan for these tutorials, they are great, keep them coming please.

Life Drawing - Week 2

Life Drawing time again!! This time its something different.. Hmm.. Its WEEK 2!!!!

Well this week was something similar to last week. Straight line drawings again. I slightly went off track to going curvy again but oh well :D I tried..

As the lesson progressed I decided to work into smaller areas, like feet, hands and the head. Again I swayed away from the straight lines which were asked but I did do the drawings so :P
